The Power of Touch
Our culture is getting more and more impersonal and removed of human contact. We have so much to accomplish and a common belief is the more we cram into our day, the more successful we become. Yet, this comes with a price. We forget to take care of ourselves and leave very little time to socialize with family and friends. Talking on cell phones, sitting in front of computers, and driving in our cars take up a large amount of the day for many. Yet when we are having a bad day, we feel better when we receive a hug from a friend or loved one. Human contact makes us feel better. That said, there are limited situations where we allow others to touch us. We have boundaries and feel uncomfortable when people invade them. Add that to our increasing impersonal culture and we are losing our ability to receive human connection.
I often think that I have been given a great privilege. I have the power to change feelings and moods by using my touch. A soothing head massage releases stress. Plus, a gentle, caring touch releases endorphins and boosts immune systems. I do not take this privilege for granted. It is a powerful gift. My goal is for my clients to experience warm, human contact in a beautiful, peaceful environment. Turn off your cell phones, relax and take some time out just for you. You deserve it.
